I do deeply apologize for not blogging more often. I have spent much of 2011 working on a new book which is now available - Letters from Homer.
As usual, I have delved into a new writing project. I did a complete rough draft last month and now I'm sitting on it as there are certain sections that need to be fixed. I just haven't figured out how.
Music is a big part of my writing as it's always on in the background. Megadeth's new album was on constantly during my recent writing. It's a great album and everyone should give it a spin. On the topic of Megadeth, I have been listening to them since my high school days and can remember hanging out in my bedroom back in '87 listening to one of their albums. I do miss the days of vinyl records and liner notes! Anyway, a piece of history was made just a week ago when Metallica in celebration of their 30th Anniversary invited Dave Mustaine of Megadeth (he was a member of Metallica when they were first starting out) on stage to play a few songs he had written during his time with them.
As a long-time Megadeth fan, long-time metal fan in general, this was probably the most amazing thing to witness via video. It was Metal history in the making because no one thought such a thing could possibly happen. Honestly, it was a remarkable event and to see Mustaine playing along side James Hetfield was truly awe inspiring.
It was great to see Jason Newsted up on stage with the band too. After having been Metallica's bass player for about 14 years his energy is still the same. The four concerts at the Fillmore were indeed special and I hope, like a lot of others that a DVD is forthcoming.
Well, I best be going. I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year!
